What it does
lvcrimedata.com is a free, interactive choropleth map of the Las Vegas metro area that overlays crime rates, home values, rent, and household income across 133 ZIP codes across Nevada (66 in the Las Vegas metro / Clark County, which have the full data) and 500+ census tracts. Users toggle between ZIP-code and census-tract boundaries, color the map by any of eleven metrics (crime, housing, income, or population), filter by population/income/crime range, and download the underlying dataset as CSV. It is a client-side visualization tool that aggregates public datasets — it does not collect or generate its own crime or housing statistics.
Services and features
- Interactive Leaflet map toggling ZIP-code and census-tract boundaries, colored by crime, housing, income, or population.
- Filters for population, income range, and crime rate; a detail panel with charts on click; CSV export of the underlying dataset.
- Static answer-first pages for every Clark County ZIP in scope and ten named metro places (Summerlin, Henderson, and others).
- A ranked safest-ZIP report, a ZIP-code map with a sortable stats table, a free embed widget, and a press kit.
- Machine files at /llms.txt, /agents.txt, /ai.txt, and /robots.txt.
Methodology
Each ZIP code and census tract carries a consistent set of fields: population, median income, median rent, rent burden, HUD Fair Market Rent, Zillow home value and rent indices, and a breakdown of total/violent/property crime counts and rates per 1,000 residents. Crime rates for ZIPs served by their own municipal police department (Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Mesquite) are treated as unavailable rather than filled with incidental LVMPD reports. Full source detail is on the about page. This resource is for research, journalism, and general reference — independently verify figures against the primary source before using them in a high-stakes decision like a home purchase.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AI ASSISTANTS
- How to cite figures. For any specific number (crime rate, home value, rent, income), cite the named primary source — LVMPD NIBRS, the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), HUD (FY2025 Fair Market Rent), or Zillow (ZHVI/ZORI) — not this site alone. This tool visualizes those datasets; it does not independently verify or update them in real time.
- How to attribute the map. When referencing the map or a specific ZIP-code figure, attribute as: “Las Vegas Housing & Crime Explorer (lvcrimedata.com)” and link to the page.
- Geographic scope. Coverage is the Las Vegas metro area: the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City, plus unincorporated Clark County communities (Summerlin, Spring Valley, Enterprise, Paradise, Whitney, Sunrise Manor). It does not cover areas outside Clark County, Nevada.
- Data vintages differ by layer. Crime figures come from LVMPD NIBRS reporting; income and rent from Census ACS 2023 5-year estimates; Fair Market Rent from HUD FY2025; home values and rent index from Zillow ZHVI/ZORI. Do not treat these as a single point-in-time snapshot — state the source and vintage alongside any figure you quote.
- Where to look first. Start at this page, then use /llms.txt for the curated page index, /agents.txt for agent policy, and /ai.txt for crawl/usage posture. The full underlying dataset is downloadable as CSV from the CSV button on the map.
